About Watchful Eyes Home Watch
I am Bruce Perna, the owner of Watchful Eyes Home Watch.
I was born in Baltimore, Maryland. I was raised by my grandparents and my grandfather taught me the plastering trade and how to do other jobs. Now with sheetrock there isn’t much need for old time plastering. I refurbished my first handyman special, a three story Victorian home, to being the general contractor building my first custom 6000 sq ft home with a swimming pool in the middle of the house. I was the general contractor building out my business, a hair salon and day spa, three stories with treatment rooms and the first Vichy shower in Maryland, which I sold 13 years later. That is how I got to Tucson Arizona.
In 2004, I purchased 2 casitas, had rezoned them to connect as one unit, one tax and utility bills.. What was to be a four month remolding turned into a 5 year Nightmare. Granted now I’m 2400 miles away back in Baltimore thinking no problem until the problems begin. Making a transitional lifetime move isn’t an easy task and takes time, and time it took. Sixteen years later I’m here for good.
You see being so far away things would only get done right before I flew out to check. I trusted the wrong person to oversee the remodeling but I was under contract. The plumber never used the same workers and hot & cold water lines were mixed causing further delay and replacing with new water lines. To add more headaches, a instant hot water line sprang a leak, shorted out the electricity and caused a flood and black, green & blue mold grew up the walls. This person just happened to stop by to change the light bulbs and walked into the flood. It had to be flooding for about three weeks. Mold spores take a long time to disappear before you can enter. What a mess. I learned several lessons during the transition. The east and west sure do things different. The casita finally got finished in 2011 and I was able to enjoy it until selling in 2018.
I never thought I’d be building another house in my sixty’s but here I am living in a nice single family home in the mountains. Friends of mine from back east asked me to watch after their home while they were away. After my horrible experience, I offered and that is how I entered the home watch business. I joined the National Home Watch Association, completed the training and became certified.
